State Knight of the Year Dan Falstad
Council #9139 Blog * Written by David Whatmuff
From the desk and pen of General Agent Lloyd Cybart
Our very own, Dan Falstad, was honored at the State Convention this year as Knight of the Year. He is a charter member of council St. Joseph the Worker and has held the offices of Grand Knight, Financial Secretary, Chancellor, and Trustee since its charter in 2003. Dan has been a member of the Knights since 1988 and has been a member of the 4th degree since 2009. Dan is the field agent assigned to the council to provide for the insurance needs of all of our members.
While Dan will tell you he doesn’t do anything on a grand scale, he makes up for it on volume.
He participates in almost all council activities and you will find him flipping pancakes, burgers and steaks, frying fish, organizing picnics, and swinging a hammer whenever required. He was instrumental in achieving Star Council and has participated in the following events in the various categories recognized for that award.
Dan is a proponent of food shelf donations and serves on the Board as Chairman of CROSS Social Services. He also plans and executes the task of cooking and serving at the Parish Picnic at the Outdoor Mass. He participates for a couple days each year building the Habitat for Humanity houses committed by the parish and encourages as many of his fellow Knights as possible to participate. He also plays a large role in ensuring our major charity fundraiser for the council, the Annual Raffle and Steak Dinner, goes off without a hitch.
Dan chairs the Families Moving Forward Picnic, leading a group of Knights cooking and serving a picnic meal for homeless guests of the parish. Dan is also a regular fryer for our Parish Lenten Fish Fries which promote the parish and council by offering this Lenten meal for a free will offering from attendees.
Dan organized the group Knights for Rosary and visitation for the funeral of a deceased Brother Knight from the council this year and visits many of the members in poor health. He participated in 4th Degree Honor Guard for presentation of Memorial Chalice to the Haiti team.
As a grunt member of the plumbing team Dan helps maintain, repair and install bathroom fixtures, water softeners, and sump pumps at the parish rectory under the supervision of those that know something about plumbing.
All Brother Knights receive birthday greetings via phone calls from Dan. Dan has personally recruited at least 6 members for the council this year and is following up to ensure the council achieves the quota to make Star Council. Dan also joins in on the annual council fishing trip to Lake of the Woods, and while he will tell you he is the best fisherman there, you should remember that all fisherman lie.
As you can tell from the above, Dan hasn’t done anything extraordinary to have earned this award. And he will be the first to tell you that he wouldn’t have received this honor without the help and support of the entire council. He is simply a worker bee in a council that is achieving great things in promoting Father McGivney’s vision of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. If you want to thank him, do so by recruiting another Catholic Gentleman into the Order.
We at the Cybart agency are very proud of Dan, and feel honored to share with you all that he has accomplished. Well done, Dan!
